Sweet Shows Consistency in Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal

The Kasey Kahne Racing NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 team made the long trek east last week, traveling over 2,700 miles from Washington to Pennsylvania for High Limit Racing’s prestigious Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway. With three nights of racing on tap, Brad Sweet and the NAPA crew showcased steady speed and consistency against one of the toughest fields of the season.

Coming off last year’s opening night victory, Sweet entered Thursday’s program with confidence. After timing in fifth-quickest in qualifying Group A, the NAPA No. 49 lined up on the front row of Heat 1. A runner-up finish secured a transfer into the feature, where Sweet rolled off ninth. On a lightning-fast track with limited passing up front, Sweet held his ground to record a 10th-place finish in the opener.

With 52 cars entered for Friday competition, qualifying well was critical. Sweet again delivered, posting the fifth-fastest lap in his group. Starting from second in Heat 3, he drove to the win and advanced to the Dash. A tough spin on the redraw wheel placed the NAPA 49 seventh. Sweet ultimately finished in that position, placing him seventh on the grid for the Friday night feature. He delivered another consistent drive over the 25-lap race, bringing home back-to-back 10th-place results.

From there, all focus turned to Saturday’s $58,000-to-win main event. Sweet qualified seventh in his group and, with the inverted lineup, started on the front row of his heat race for the third straight night. Finishing second in the heat, Sweet advanced directly to the 50-lap feature with a 14th-place starting spot. Through the first 25 laps, the NAPA No. 49 held steady before a scheduled fuel stop allowed the crew to make key adjustments. The changes paid off. Sweet advanced to 12th at the checkered flag, completing a weekend of consistent finishes.

The KKR NAPA 49 team now returns to the shop in Mooresville, NC, to prepare for High Limit’s next stop, the Commonwealth Clash at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA. With the championship battle heating up, Sweet and the NAPA team remain third in the standings and hungry to climb back to the top.
