Chase Elliott Store Open ahead of Charlotte Track Debut
With his high school graduation behind him, the rest of Chase Elliott’s life starts now.
Charlotte, N.C. (May 20, 2014) – Last weekend Chase Elliott checked the life box entitled “Complete high school” when he graduated from Kings Ridge Christian School. This weekend he becomes a full-time working man.
If the transition comes with any semblance of trepidation for Elliott, it’s perfectly understandable. It would make him no different than anyone else. A diploma is more than a piece of paper. It’s a non-refundable ticket to adulthood. With it comes responsibility and obligation. Elliott will be moving to North Carolina this week to be near his race team, JR Motorsports.
Perhaps to his advantage, Elliott’s first race out of high school will be the hometown track of his new abode. Elliott will be making his track debut at Charlotte Motor Speedway Saturday afternoon in the No. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS Chevrolet. An in-car camera will be aboard his NAPA machine, and Elliott will be the in-race reporter for ABC’s live coverage of the History 300, which begins at 2:30 p.m. ET. The last time Elliott was the in-race reporter, he won. That was at Darlington Raceway six weeks ago.
While the venue is new to Elliott, the 1.5-mile quad-oval configuration is not. Elliott is comfortable with the 1.5-mile speedways based on his win at Texas and top five at Las Vegas. And track debuts don’t shake the 18-year-old, as both his wins in 2014 (Texas and Darlington) came in his first starts at the respective speedways.
Elliott enters the weekend as the leader in two standings, starting with the Nationwide Series points race. He holds a slim two-point advantage over Elliott Sadler and teammate Regan Smith. Both are racing veterans with 18 combined NASCAR victories.
Elliott has a more comfortable cushion in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings with a 37-point lead over Ty Dillon.
