Elliott Continues Top-20 Streak with 16th-Place Finish in Chicago

- Chase Elliott and the No. 9 team had a fast No. 9 NAPA Gold Filters Chevy ready for the Chicago Street Course. Elliott posted the third fastest lap in practice, but the No. 9 NAPA Gold Filters Chevy sustained damage after Elliott got into a barrier. The team needed to make repairs, so Elliott did not participate in qualifying.
- The 29-year-old driver started at the rear of the field in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race. He advanced to 28th to end stage one and finished seventh in stage two.
- In the final stage, the Elliott took the green flag in 30th after a lengthy stop for repairs from a stage two incident. He drove to a 16th place finish.
- Elliott remains second in the regular season points standings, just 13 markers behind the leader, Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron. He remains the only driver to finish in the top 20 in every race so far this season.

Elliott started from the rear of the field and was scored 27th when a multi-car incident brought out the red flag on lap three. He restarted 26th and was up to 25th on lap eight. As the stage was nearing its end, crew chief Alan Gustafson called Elliott to pit road for four tires and fuel. He ultimately ended the stage in 28th on lap 20.

Staying out under the stage break, Elliott restarted in the 22nd position on lap 25. Not long after the restart, the No. 9 NAPA Gold Filters sustained front end damage while Elliott was trying to avoid an incident ahead of him. The race continued to go green, and Elliott remained on the track. He was running 17th when a caution flag waved on lap 31 for a car stalled on the track. After initially considering pitting for repairs, Elliott and the team decided to stay out and go for stage points. He restarted 14th and improved to seventh to end stage two.

Under the stage-ending caution, the team pitted for four tires, fuel and repairs to the No. 9 NAPA Gold Filters Chevy. Elliott took the green flag for the final stage in the 30th position on lap 48. He was up to 24th when the yellow flag waved on lap 60. Elliott brought the NAPA Chevy to the attention of his crew for four tires and fuel. He restarted 22nd on lap 63 and advanced to 16th to finish the 75-lap race.

Elliott remains second in the Cup Series regular season points standings, 13 points behind the leader, Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron. With his 16th-place finish, Elliott remains the only driver this season to finish all 19 races in the top 20.
