Four Races, Three Wins, Two States and One Championship
Brad Sweet and the NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 team capped off an outstanding 2024 season with a commanding performance during the final week of the High Limit Racing series. The five-time World of Outlaws champion added a milestone sixth national championship to his storied career record, and he added three more wins to his 2024 tally in the last week alone.
The final, four-race stretch started on Tuesday at I-70 Speedway in Missouri, where the NAPA No. 49 clocked in at 13.647 seconds in qualifying, placing Sweet fourth in Flight B. The Big Cat went on to dominate his heat race, starting and finishing in first. A competitive FK Rod Ends Dash saw the NAPA driver slip from third to fourth, upping the challenge Sweet faced in the feature. Undeterred, Sweet charged forward from his fourth-place starting position and claimed the victory, his ninth High Limit Racing win of the season.
The NAPA team stayed in the “Show Me State” for Wednesday night’s event at Lucas Oil Speedway, and Sweet picked up where he left off at I-70. Locked in from his previous performance, Sweet went straight into heat race action, jumping from fourth to first in his heat. Sweet went on to finish second in the dash, placing the NAPA No. 49 machine on the front row for the feature. From there, Sweet delivered yet again. He jumped to the lead and raced to his 10th win of the year and earned a $25,000 payday.
The No. 49 team made their way to Texas Motor Speedway for the two-night All-In Championship Weekend, marking the High Limit Racing 2024 season finale. The momentum created by the two, mid-week race wins continued on Friday with Sweet qualifying fourth in Flight A with a time of 13.807 seconds. The Big Cat swept through his heat, starting first and holding the lead to the checkered flag. That put the No. 49 third to start the dash, and Sweet held his position to the finish. After starting third in the Friday night feature, Sweet again surged to the lead, putting on a show for the fans in attendance. The NAPA team scored their third-consecutive win and 11th on the season.
On the final night at Texas and last of the season, Sweet arrived locked in from his previous night’s performance. Despite a challenging heat race, the NAPA driver picked up two spots to finish second and earned a spot in the dash. There, he advanced from fifth to fourth, improving his starting position in the final High Limit Racing feature of 2024. Sweet, however, encountered adversity in the feature. The No. 49 was caught in a late-race incident and ultimately finished 19th. It was a tough way to end a standout season, but his performances earlier in the week solidified his top spot in the final championship standings.
With a final total of 3,137 points, Sweet finished the season 297 points ahead of second-place competitor Tyler Courtney to win the 2024 High Limit Racing championship. It’s his sixth-consecutive national sprint car title with NAPA Auto Parts, further cementing Sweet’s status as one of the top competitors in the sport.
“It’s been a phenomenal year for our team, and to finish it off with three wins in the last week is truly a testament to everyone’s hard work,” Sweet said. “NAPA Auto Parts, Kasey Kahne Racing, and all our partners have helped make this possible, and I’m incredibly proud to bring home another championship for them.”
