Hemric Gets Tangled Up at IRP
Daniel Hemric’s effort ended early on Friday night at Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP) after being involved in an incident that dealt him a 34th-place finish. The driver of the No. 19 Delphi Chevrolet Silverado RST sits ninth in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Trucks Series standings with two races remaining prior to the Chase.
Hemric took the green flag from the 18th position under the lights Friday evening. In the opening laps, he drove forward inside the top-15 but was lacking grip in the right rear tire during the early moments. As the opening 60-lap run progressed completely under green flag conditions, Hemric’s balance continued to loosen. The lack of grip on IRP’s flat corners with the right rear tire put him a lap down and in 20th position by the end of Stage 1 on lap 60.
The Delphi team armed Hemric with four fresh tires, fuel, and a round of adjustments to aid his handling condition during the stage caution. He restarted 19th on lap 71 and climbed to 17th by the time a caution waved on lap 121. Shortly after restarting on lap 131, severe contact from the No. 13 truck on entry to Turn 3 sent Hemric spinning into the corner, resulting in terminal damage to the No. 19 Chevrolet, which ended his evening with a 34th-place mark. After 16 of 18 regular season events, Hemric now holds a 14-point cushion on the provisional cut line.
“A hole closed. I had a run on the No. 13 and was going to send it to the bottom hard,” Hemric said after the incident. “I pulled out of line and he turned left too at the same time, just kind of a bad situation. Hate it for everyone at MHR. Tearing racetrucks up is not something I like to do. Hate it for everyone at Delphi. It was their second race with us, had a good run with them at Watkins Glen. Looking forward to having another chance to do just that, have a solid showing for them.”
