Massey Records Seventh Top-Five of the Season at Madera

Mason Massey brought home a fifth-place finish in the Madera 150 at Madera Speedway after battling near the front throughout the 150-lap ARCA Menards Series West race. The result marked Massey’s seventh top-five finish of the season in his debut start at the Madera, Calif. bullring. The No. 19 Mongoose Power Solutions Chevrolet SS for Bill McAnally Racing started second after posting the sixth-fastest time in practice and second-fastest time in qualifying.

After the drop of the green flag, Massey maintained a strong pace while working to close the gap to the race leader. Massey ran a groove higher to diamond the corners and build momentum down the straightaways to keep pace with the leader. Heavy lap traffic came into play around the halfway point while Massey continued to run second until his teammate, Hailie Deegan, caught him with 75 laps remaining. Massey moved to the outside to lead lap 79 before racing three-wide on the outside for the lead on lap 80. A caution followed with Massey running second, where he remained after the restart with 63 laps to go

The Douglasville, Ga., native held second through the next caution on lap 118 and restarted in the same position with 24 laps remaining. On the restart, Massey got loose in turn one and spun underneath the race leader after contact, dropping him to 14th. He restarted deep in the field with 12 laps to go and quickly began working his way through the field, moving forward to ninth with 10 to go.

A caution on lap 142 set up another restart, and Massey continued his charge before the final caution on lap 149 set up an overtime restart. Starting sixth for the green-white-checkered finish, Massey gained a position to bring the Mongoose Power Solutions Chevrolet SS home in the fifth.

“Really happy to see my teammate Hailie in victory lane tonight,” Massey said after the race. “Both Bill McAnally Racing Chevrolets unloaded yesterday with a ton of speed, and we knew we had something for the rest of the field. I think we did a good job managing track position until the spin, and afterwards we fought all the way to the end. I’m glad to get our Mongoose Power Solutions Chevy another top-five, but I wish we were up there battling for the win. Short week, but we’ll be ready for the Bullring (Las Vegas).”
