Daison Pursley and the NAPA Auto Parts No. 9 flexed their speed in a mid-week race at Grandview Speedway before soggy conditions had a ripple effect across the nation Memorial Day weekend, canceling, shortening, and postponing races across multiple series. Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing made the difficult decision to postpone the three-day Bob Weikert Memorial weekend scheduled for May 22-24 at Port Royal Speedway, in Pennsylvania, until July 25-26.

On Tuesday before the rain came, Pursley and the NAPA team were in action at the one-third mile Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA, where Pursley scored his first Quick-Time of the season in Qualifying B, clocking in at 12.654 around the moderately high-banked surface. With the fastest qualifier in each Heat race starting in the fourth position, Pursley held down the second row, setting him up for a chance at the redraw wheel to determine his starting position in the Dash. Pursley defended the fourth spot against hungry competitors once again, earning him the fourth spot in the 35-lap Feature event.

The NAPA No. 9 took off and had a great start, taking P3 in the opening lap, where Pursley battled fiercely for 12 laps. The driver and his machine were dialed in, racing at the front of the pack, until crossing paths with No. 39M of Kasey Kahne entering Turn 3. Trying to recover from a bump-and-run, Pursley blocked the middle of the track, only to be charged on by the No. 39M, who got a run on the same line, ultimately rupturing Pursley’s left rear tire and drawing a caution. The NAPA No. 9 then restarted from the back of the field on lap 22. On Lap 27, Brent Marks (No. 19) was spun into a standstill, facing the stands. That left drivers behind Marks, including Purlsey, scrambling to avoid the No. 19 sitting at the entry of Turn 1. The NAPA No. 9 slammed into the incapacitated No. 19, ending Pursley’s day on lap 27. Aaron Reutzel (No. 87) took the checkers from the pole position after surviving several takeover attempts, redacted by cautions.
