Sweet Faces Challenge in Portsmouth Debut
Saturday marked the debut of Brad Sweet and the NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 team at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio, as the team competed with High Limit Racing in the seventh annual Dean Knittle Memorial race. With a top prize of $25,554 on the line, the event was a thrilling addition to the 2024 calendar, and the NAPA team was eager to compete for the win.
The competition at Portsmouth was tough. Beginning with qualifying, Sweet clocked in at 13.208 seconds, placing 20th overall. In his heat race, the driver of the NAPA No. 49 started seventh and advanced to sixth at the checkers, placing him 17th to start in the evening’s feature.
Despite a significant setback, Sweet was able to improve his position in the main event. The NAPA team encountered a major challenge when Sweet lost his brakes, making it difficult to advance through the field. Sweet showed his skills on track, however, and climbed from 17th up to 12th at the finish, all under difficult circumstances.
Sweet maintains the High Limit Racing points lead after Portsmouth with an 81-point lead over second-place Tyler Courtney. The team remained in Ohio as High Limit Racing rolls into Eldora Speedway later this week.
