Sweet Locks Up High Limit Racing Championship before National Open

Brad Sweet locked up the 2024 High Limit Racing championship to earn his sixth-consecutive national sprint car series title, all six with NAPA Auto Parts on the car. The Kasey Kahne Racing driver tallied a championship points lead that became insurmountable for the second-place driver when races at both Florence Speedway and Atomic Speedway were rained out, leaving just three High Limit Racing events on the 2024 calendar.

With the weekend off from the High Limit series, Sweet and the NAPA No. 49 team traveled to Williams Grove Speedway to race against the World of Outlaws in the prestigious, $75,000-to-win National Open. It was a challenging weekend on the half-mile oval, but the NAPA team made a strong push, especially after mechanical issues plagued their first main-event effort.

Sweet started the weekend off on Friday night with a qualifying lap of 16.661 seconds, sixth-quickest of Flight A. The Big Cat started third in his heat race but finished fifth after encountering difficulty. Friday’s feature was postponed to Saturday due to dense fog, and Sweet lined up 19th to start. Unfortunately, a mechanical issue forced him to exit early, and he was credited with a 26th-place finish.

The No. 49 team was determined to bounce back on Saturday evening, and Sweet started strong with the second-quickest run in Flight B, posting a lap time of 16.769 seconds. He carried the momentum into his heat race, where he initially led but ultimately finished third. In the Saturday night feature, Sweet surged from a 12th-place start to an impressive third-place finish, capping a weekend of highs and lows on the National Open podium.

“This team has been relentless all year, working hard and staying focused on getting consistent finishes night after night,” Sweet said of the championship season so far. “I’m so proud of the entire crew for the effort they’ve put in – it’s never easy, but we’ve kept at it. Representing NAPA Auto Parts and bringing them another championship means everything to us. I couldn’t ask for better partners and a more dedicated team.”

Despite the mixed results at Williams Grove and having the High Limit Racing championship locked down, Sweet’s focus on the remainder of the 2024 season remains steady. The NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 will continue to strive for the highest level of performance in the final three events, starting Tuesday at I-70 Speedway and culminating on October 12 for the finale of the All-In Championship at Texas Motor Speedway.
