Sweet Widens High Limit Racing Points Lead in Missouri
Building on the momentum that carried them to the High Limit Racing points lead one month ago, Brad Sweet and the NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 team delivered impressive performances and strengthened their championship points advantage at two Missouri tracks last week.
The action started Wednesday night at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri, with Sweet qualifying the No. 49 second in Flight B with a lap time of 11.953 seconds. In the heat race, the NAPA driver made strong gains at the wave of the green flag and advanced from fourth to third, earning a spot in the FK Rod Ends Dash. A spin of the wheel put the Big Cat third for the seven lap dash. Sweet maneuvered the Lake Ozark dirt track to gain one spot, placing the No. 49 on the front row to start the mid-week main event. Although he was able to challenge for the lead in the feature, misfortune struck as Sweet damaged his front wing. He fell back and finished fifth.
Friday night’s Diamond Classic at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheaton offered the NAPA No. 49 team a clean slate and a chance at redemption. In qualifying, Sweet timed in at 13.183 seconds for sixth in Flight B. Staring on the front row for his heat race, the Big Cat took charge on lap one. He continued to build a lead, winning the heat race and locking into the dash.
A spin of the wheel put the NAPA team fifth to start the seven-lap dash, and Sweet picked up two spots to finish third. In Friday’s main event, the No. 49 continued to make moves. After starting third, Sweet surged to the lead and held it until a late-race charge by Tyler Courtney, leading to a runner-up finish for the NAPA team.
Due to inclement weather, Saturday night’s races at Lucas Oil Speedway were canceled. With an 83-point lead in hand, the team headed home after a six-week stint on the road and will have two weeks off to rest and regroup.
