Deegan Starts Strong, Finishes Seventh at Colorado

Hailie Deegan turned in a strong qualifying effort and a seventh-place finish on Saturday night at Colorado National Speedway. The driver of the No. 16 NAPA Auto Care Chevrolet SS qualified third, her season-best starting position, as she and the Bill McAnally Racing team carried the memory of longtime Colorado-based NAPA customer Billy Green on the hood. The seventh-place result is Deegan’s fourth top-10 of the ARCA Menards Series West season.

The Californian showed stout strength in the practice and qualifying sessions under sunny skies on Saturday afternoon. Deegan was fourth fastest in practice and delivered a season-high third-place qualifying effort. From the drop of the green flag in the 150-lap feature, Deegan solidified the third position in the event’s first half. After making adjustments during the halfway break at lap 75, Deegan lined up third for the restart on lap 76.

The second half of the event ran entirely under green flag conditions as a tight handling condition developed on Deegan’s NAPA Auto Care Chevrolet throughout the longest run of the night. The handling condition hindered Deegan’s efforts through Colorado National’s wide sweeping corners as she ultimately took the checkered flag in seventh position.

“We had a good run going with our NAPA Auto Care Chevrolet,” Deegan said. “Ended up third in qualifying and truly felt like we had a top-three car to start the race. After the halfway break we just lost the balance a little bit and got too tight. We’ll look forward to going to Tri-City in a couple of weeks.”
