Elliott Collects Eighth Top-Ten Finish of Season at Pocono

Chase Elliott raced his No. 24 SunEnergy1 Chevrolet to an eighth-place finish at Pocono Raceway and also collected 11 bonus points by virtue of strong showings in the first two stages.
After qualifying 25th at Pocono Raceway, Elliott was one of the biggest movers during a caution-free Stage 1, finishing sixth and earning five bonus points.
The No. 24 SunEnergy1 team parlayed that success with another top-five finish in the second stage. Elliott had raced his way into third when the red flag waved on Lap 97. When the race restarted with only one lap remaining in Stage 2, Elliott slipped back a bit, but managed to cross the green-checkered fifth to collect six additional bonus points.
The SunEnergy1 team elected to pit for four tires and fuel during the Stage 2 break and restarted 14th after 11 competitors chose not to pit. Once the final stage began, Elliott wasted no time battling his way back through the field. By Lap 119, the 21-year-old driver had advanced his position all the way up to sixth.
After a sequence of pit stops, Elliott found himself running seventh. Crew chief Alan Gustafson called his driver to pit road for four fresh tires and fuel for the 13-lap sprint to the finish. Several other teams opted to either not pit or to take only right-side tires.
Elliott lined up ninth and would ultimately finish eighth for his second consecutive top-10 finish and eighth of the season.
