Elliott Scores Top-Five Finish in NASCAR All-Star Race

  • Chase Elliott and the No. 9 Prime Video team started Sunday’s NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway from the sixth position after finishing third in Saturday’s second heat race.
  • Elliott spent a majority of the 250-lap exhibition race inside the top five. He was running in the third position at the time of the lap 101 caution and ultimately took the checkered flag in the fifth position.

Chase Elliott and the No. 9 Prime Video team started Sunday’s NASCAR All-Star Race from the sixth position after finishing third in the second heat race on Saturday evening. Elliott quickly advanced his position inside the top five once the green flag waved in the 250-lap exhibition event on Sunday at North Wilkesboro Speedway. He was running in fourth when the first caution of the race came out for an incident on lap 57. Crew chief Alan Gustafson called his driver in for four fresh tires and fuel.

Elliott restarted from the inside of the third row on lap 63. He methodically worked his way forward, reaching the third position on lap 90. The scheduled competition caution slowed the race at lap 101. The 2020 All-Star Race winner visited pit road for four tires and fuel and restarted from the second row on lap 108. He was scored in third when an incident brought out the yellow flag at lap 114. Staying out, Elliott once again restarted from the second row. He battled hard with the No. 12 of Ryan Blaney for third before settling into fourth on lap 128. Elliott was still in fourth when the yellow flag was displayed at lap 175.

After pitting for four tires and fuel, Elliott lined up fourth for the restart at lap 182. He advanced to third before the promoter caution came out on lap 216. Elliott brought his No. 9 Prime Video Chevrolet to pit road for right-side tires and fuel. With some cars opting not to pit, he restarted in seventh and advanced two spots to take the checkered flag in the fifth position.

“Our No. 9 Prime Video Chevy was pretty good,” Elliott said after the checkered flag. “We were in the mix, but we just needed a little bit more to be there with Joey (Logano) and Christopher (Bell). We were solid, better than we’ve been, and it’s just a nice step in the right direction. We just had a good, solid night. Obviously needed a little bit more, but overall, it was pretty solid.”
