Sweet Earns Seventh High Limit Racing Win of the Season at Port Royal

Brad Sweet and the NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 team bounced back from a winless streak with victory in the first night of the Tuscarora 50 last week at Port Royal Speedway. Despite entering Port Royal with the High Limit Racing points lead and six wins on the season, Sweet and the No. 49 team ended a drought that lasted since mid-May. On the final night of the event on Saturday, Sweet vied for the $57,000 winner’s prize in front of a sold out crowd.

Thursday’s Port Royal fans saw a strong effort by Sweet right from the start when the NAPA driver qualified fourth in Flight A with a lap time of 15.930 seconds. The momentum continued in heat race action, with the five-time World of Outlaws champion starting and finishing first and earning his spot in the FK Rod Ends Dash. The Big Cat drew the fifth-place starting spot in the dash and maintained the spot through the seven-lap sprint. The Thursday night feature had fans on the edge of their seats as Sweet started from the fifth position and worked his way up to the lead. His seventh victory of the High Limit Racing season put Sweet back on top as the series’ winningest driver in 2024.

On Friday, the NAPA No. 49 team returned to Port Royal hoping to earn yet another win. Sweet continued his impressive form, qualifying third in Flight B with a 15.702-second lap. After a lagged start in heat race competition, Sweet held the second position for eight laps until the checkered flag dropped. The NAPA Auto Parts crew prepared a fast No. 49 machine for the Friday night main event. Grass Valley, California, native Sweet was tenth to start and drove up through the field to finish fourth.

On the final night of the Tuscarora 50, Sweet and the NAPA team faced some challenges, starting with qualifying. The No. 49 placed 11th in Flight B with a lap time of 18.196 seconds. In his heat race, the Big Cat started first but finished ninth after breaking a rear axle mid-race. Still, the NAPA No. 49 was guaranteed a spot in the Saturday night feature thanks to Thursday’s win. Despite starting towards the rear of the field in 19th, Sweet battled hard throughout the race to finish 13th, capping off a challenging but rewarding weekend.

With just 10 events remaining on the 2024 High Limit Racing schedule, Sweet remains the points leader with 2,624 points, 230 points ahead of second place. The NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 team will continue to race for wins through this final stretch.
