Sweet Extends Points Lead with Podium Finish at Wilmot
Brad Sweet, driver of the NAPA Auto Parts No. 49, extended his World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series points lead with a podium finish at Wilmot Raceway. The four-time and defending champion finished second on Saturday night at the Wisconsin racetrack after the scheduled race at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, on Friday night was rained out.
The NAPA team unloaded at Wilmot and prepared for qualifying. Sweet immediately made his mark, clocking a qualifying time of 12.222 seconds to secure the fifth spot overall. This set the stage for the No. 49 to line up second in Heat Race 1. In heat race action, the NAPA driver continued to drive with control and precision, crossing the line in second and earning his spot in the Fast Pass Dash.
After drawing the third spot to start the dash, the NAPA No. 49 faced off against the top finishers from each of the heat races. Despite the formidable competition, Sweet ultimately crossed the line in fourth and earned that spot for the start of the main event.
When the A-main lined up, the NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 machine was ready for 40 grueling laps with Sweet at the wheel. The Big Cat wasted no time in making his presence felt. He maneuvered his machine with finesse and hit his marks where needed. Lap after lap, Sweet fiercely battled his competitors, and when the checkered flag dropped, he crossed the line in second place. The result marked the NAPA team’s 16th podium finish of the season.
