Chase Elliott, driver of the No. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS Chevrolet, finished 12th in Saturday’s Lilly Diabetes 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Elliott remains in the NASCAR Nationwide Series points lead by four points over teammate Regan Smith.

NNS QUALIFYINGStarting fifth, Elliott was shuffled to eighth by the time the first caution flag waved on lap 16.  Elliott complained his car would not turn the way he needed it to while also battling a persistent issue with rear grip in his NAPA Chevrolet.

Under a lap-73 caution, crew chief Greg Ives decided to take a swing at remedying the car’s loose condition.  Elliott came to pit road, as most of the field stayed out, for four fresh tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment.  The trip to pit road slid Elliott back to 14th for a lap-76 restart.  In the race’s final stretch, Elliott climbed two positions to take the checkered flag 12th.

Driver Quotes | Chase Elliott

“Today was unacceptable.  It was just a very, very poor day.  My NAPA AUTO PARTS team and I will try to regroup and hopefully have a better run next week at Iowa.  Where we were running on the race track today disappointed me.  I don’t like looking up in the rear view mirror and see guys getting bigger, that means you aren’t moving along the way you need to be.  That’s part of racing and exactly why I don’t get too excited after good weeks like last week when we won at Chicagoland, because it can go away in a hurry.

“We will keep our heads high.  You take last week for granted and it gets you nowhere.  You just have to take the lows and the highs the same way.  After we won last week, Monday was a new agenda preparing for today’s race at Indy.  We have to look at next week the same way and regroup before we unload in Iowa.”NNS RACE
